Some of our favorite places to shop local....

IMG_3668

This year Small Business Saturday is November 26th.

We will be open 11am-5pm

Join us in celebrating what's special about shopping local.

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First celebrated on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

Why shop local?  Why shop small?
One reason is small businesses create the majority of jobs in America. Then there is the gas and time savings of shopping where you already are.  To me, the best reason is being able to buy things that have a story attached.

Some stories are about the helpful and friendly people you encountered in the store.  Others are about where the product came from.  Still more are about the neighborhood or unique spot the trip took you to.  Whether it is buying your holiday roast from the butcher down the street or gifts from the shop around the corner, each and every purchase gives you something more than what's in the bag.

When you shop local and small you get an experience worth sharing.

Where can you find things made just for you?

Where can you find things made just for you?

Merriam-Webster defines local as:

1: characterized by or relating to position in space : having a definite spatial form or location
2 : of, relating to, or characteristic of a particular place : not general or widespread

Local products by and for local people....
In an age of Big Box stores, Made in China and camping out for Black Friday, have we lost sight of the joy in giving what is made in our own back yard?

Just north of Westfield's new bridge are places where you can actually find treats made with you in mind.  From snacks that will excite your sweet tooth to scents designed to enlighten your mood, you will find goods and gifts unique to the place where you call home.

A journey north on routes 10 & 202 takes you on a path to three spots where shopping is once again a pleasure.  The designers and craftspeople of Pilgrim Candle, Beantowne and Terra Americana take pride in making your time worth the trip.
